Rick Crummins

Senior Investigator and Hearing Officer

Rick Crummins brings over three decades of legal experience to the firm, with a distinguished career spanning both private practice and higher education law. He began as a judicial clerk for a federal district judge in Rochester, New York, before joining a national law firm’s litigation department. 

Rick spent 27 years in the Office of University Counsel at a leading private research university in New York, including the last six years as Deputy General Counsel. In that role, he advised senior leadership on a broad range of legal and compliance matters, with a particular emphasis on student and faculty affairs. He also served as Interim Associate Vice President for Equal Opportunity from 2018 to 2019.

Rick has extensive experience investigating and responding to allegations of unlawful discipline, discrimination, and failure to accommodate disabilities. He served as the university’s primary legal advisor to both the Title IX Coordinator and the Director of Disability Compliance and represented the institution in proceedings before the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights.

In addition to his legal practice, Rick is an adjunct faculty member at the university’s School of Education, where he teaches higher education law to graduate students.
